Among foreign tourists, Khuvsgul Province, which is called Switzerland in Mongolia, is a prefecture with a clear air where mountains rise, clear rivers flow, and flowers bloom colorfully. The north of Khuvsgul province borders Russia and has an area of 10,000 square killometers.
Tourism
Named after Lake Khuvsgul, the deepest lake in Central Asia, the region is well known for its lakes such as Erhel, Achimag and Zenger, as well as the mountains such as Buren khaan, Khoridol Saridag and Soyon, which line 3500 meters above sea level. The prefecture has the largest forest resources in the country, but it covers 5,000 square meters per person. There are also many mineral springs such as cold springs and hot springs here. Forests include larch, cedar, ezomatsu, pine, and fir, but larch can be as high as 40 meters. Also, a lot of medicinal herbs are growing. In addition to rare animals such as deer, spatula, wild goats, wild sheep, sables and beavers, there are also animals such as foxes, wolves, bears, squirrels and skunks. Birds include condors, eagles, and woodpeckers.
The natural resources of Khovsgul Province are also abundant. Many good quality coals, gems, jade, recommendations and ash stones and marble as building materials are also mined. Lake Khuvsgul is the largest lake in the country, 79% of which is more than 100 meters deep. The lake is very clean, low in organic matter and rich in oxygen at the bottom of the lake. The lake is as clear as a stream and you can see fish that live up to 10 meters. There are 10 species of fish for collection here. About 100 rivers originating from all mountain ranges reach this lake, and from here it becomes a river called Egi, which is poured into Lake Baikal together with the Selenge River. Lake Khuvsgul begins to freeze in late November and is covered with thick ice of 1 to 1.5 meters. The population of Khuvsgul province is second only to that of Ulaanbaatar. The total population is 116,000 and the province consists of 24 counties. The prefectural capital is Murun 692 km from Ulaanbaatar. Khuvsgul Province is developing with the aim of tourism and infrastructure centered on Lake Khuvsgul.
