DUUT KHAD

Duut khad

Located 23 kilometers northeast of the center of Santmargats soum in Zavkhan Province, this ancient relic is also known as Duut Stone or Deren Stone. It consists of a dark blue stone placed horizontally on three smaller stones. The main stone measures 85 cm in length, 55 cm in width, and 32 cm in thickness. Its upper surface features 23 circular depressions arranged in a ring, with identical circular indentations on both sides.

This deer stone dates back to the Bronze Age, around 3000 BCE. One of its unique characteristics is that when struck with wood or stone, it produces a sound resembling that of hollow metal.

Locals who love music often visit to “tune” the Duut Stone and create melodies. It has become a must-see attraction for visitors exploring the area.
