WATERFALL ULAAN TSUTGALAN

Waterfall Ulaan tsutgalan

The waterfall has a height of 24 meters, but its width varies between 25 to 50 meters depending on the water levels of the Orkhon River, making it the widest waterfall in Mongolia. It is located 135 km south of Kharkhorin soum. Ulaan Tsutgalan Waterfall is one of the main tourist destinations in Mongolia.

In its upper regions, the Orkhon River flows close to the surrounding mountains, giving it a high energy potential. After heavy rains or prolonged showers, mountain runoff rapidly swells the river, causing a noticeable rise in the Orkhon River’s water level within just a few hours, often resulting in flooding. During such times, the volume of water at Orkhon Waterfall increases significantly, with the waterfall sometimes surging upwards by about one to two hand spans. The width of Ulaan Tsutgalan Waterfall can also expand, occasionally reaching up to 60 meters.
