The aimag is located in the western central region of Mongolia, 630km away from the capital. Travel distance is comparable with going to Umnugobi which is a popular tourist destination. Bayankhongor is located close to Ulaanbaatar than many other aimags such as Khuvsgul, Dornod, Zavkhan, Uvs and Khovd.
Tourism
Bayankhongor Province is one of the provinces of Mongolia. It is 640 km from Ulaanbaatar. It takes about 7-8 hours by car, but 10 hours by local bus every day (ticket fee is about $ 15). Domestic flights fly from Ulaanbaatar twice a week.
Bayankhongor borders the southern part with the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region of the People’s Republic of China. In Japan, it borders Zavkhan and Arkhangai in the north, Övörkhangai and Omnögovi in the east, and Govi-Altai in the west.
The altitude is 1859m above sea level and the population is 26,252. The name Bayankhongor means “abundant brown hair”.
It is a beautiful tourist destination of Mongolia’s beautiful nature such as deserts, prairie and forests.
It is one of my favorite areas because it still has a simple “good Mongolia” that is not a tourist destination. There are many tourist destinations in Bayankhongor that you would like to visit, starting with real nomads and natural hot springs.
