GREAT BOGD MOUNTAIN
Great Bogd Mountain
In the vast Gobi Desert of Mongolia, you can find a landscape that reminds one of the Khangai region, with emerald green moss plants, a variety of colorful flowers, cascading rivers rushing through high mountain ranges, and unique geological formations created by earthquakes. There are also rare and endangered animals such as Argali sheep, wild goats, and snow leopards, along with medicinal plants like Bansemburuu, golden herb, and leader.
If you wish to see all of this in one place, make sure to visit the eternal snow-capped summit of Mount Ikh Bogd, one of the highest peaks of the Gobi-Altai mountain range, located in the Bogd soum of Bayankhongor province.
Mount Ikh Bogd rises 3,957 meters above sea level, and in 1957, a powerful earthquake caused one of the mountain’s peaks to collapse, blocking two river valleys. This event created two beautiful lakes, known today as Khuvsgul Lake and Nogoont Lake, which attract significant interest from foreign tourists.
