KHUSTAI NATIONAL PARK

The last wild horses in the world, “Takhi” or “Przewalski horses”, can be found in this area. “Takhi” was endangered in the Gobi Desert in the 1960s, but some of them were moved to special breeding forest parks in Europe. Since returning wild horses to Mongolia from European zoos (Netherlands and Switzerland) in 1995, the number has now increased to 2000. In addition to the wild horse Takhi, about 50 types of mammals such as deer, gazelles, and marmots inhabit here. Please fully enjoy the flora and fauna of Mongolia that live in nature. In addition, during the nomad visit, you can observe the actual life of the nomads and experience the assembly of the traditional dwelling “Ger”. The once extinct Takhi Wildlife Project has made it possible to see Takhi again here in Mongolia. You may be lucky to see Takhi up close. There are many stone statues, tombs, deer statues, and human stones related to Turkic era in this area. You can also experience the lives of wide grasslands, dunes, rocky mountains, rivers and the nomads who live there. Hiking and horse trekking tours can be enjoyed in the Khustai NP area. Khustai, a national park where wild Mongolian horses inhabiting the Gobi region are migrating, protecting and researching, is a mountainous area with many birch trees, and the place name is derived from “the range of silver birches” Khustai. The small, tolerant Mongolian horse played an important role in the realization of the Mongol Empire that Genghis Khan once built.

It is located in the Khustai Conservation Area, 100 km from Ulaanbaatar. The tourist camp has 15 ger facilities. Once extinct, the wild horse Takhi is protected within this Khustai Conservation Area. Takhi is considered to be the original species of horses today and retains its unique morphology. Currently 150 Takhi are reproductive.
The last wild horse Takhi in the world that lived in Przewalski horse = Mongolia disappeared from Mongolia due to being taken out to foreign countries, but it was reimported from Europe and Australia and khustai national park in the central prefecture. Succeeded in breeding in the park. The terrain extends from grasslands to forests. Good times to see Takhi, deer and gazelles are at dawn and dusk. There are also archaeological objects near this reserve, such as Turkish tombs and human stone statues.
